Mission
Statement
NYU's International Center for Advanced Studies (ICAS) creates a community
of scholars in the humanities and social sciences that is international
in origin, cosmopolitan in outlook, and comparative in approach. At
its core is a residential fellowship program that brings together
scholars-also writers, artists, policy intellectuals-working on specific
topics within the Center's overall theme. Themes change every several
years. The signature feature of the Center is a weekly seminar at
which Fellows and others present work-in-progress. In these seminars
Fellows, joined by other scholars from NYU and elsewhere in NYC, create
an ongoing conversation that helps them deepen their understanding
of the strengths and weaknesses and of their own disciplines and broaden
the range of theories, methods, and bodies of evidence they employ
in their research and writing. See ICAS web site for application details
and its current theme.
