The Center for the Humanities (a CHCI member institution) and the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has been awarded $2.5 million from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to design a new program for undergraduate students. According to the news release from the College of Letters & Sciences, this initiative responds to recent research that studying the humanities has economic, social, and personal values. The initiative recognizes that undergraduate learners are less interested in disciplines and more interested in responding to problems and questions, and thus "designed to support students who are eager to graduate from college with a sense of their future and their place in the world." The program "aims to build a scalable program that will serve as a model for [American] public universities nationally."
